Massive fire on the suburbs of Donetsk || Weekly News, 2nd of October, 2021
1 Donbass Ukrainian troops opened massive fire on the suburbs of Donetsk. The local ’Zasyadko’ mine was damaged by the shelling - the DPR militia press service reported. 122 mm artillery pieces and 120 mm mortars, prohibited by the local treaties, were used during the shelling. 38 shells were fired on the industrial area. There were no civilian casualties. 2 Georgia The former president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, was arrested after returning to Georgia after 8 years of absence. The Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, stated that "the 3rd president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, was arrested and sent to a prison". An arrest warrant was issued against Saakashvili several years ago for the corruption and abuse of power. He returned to Georgia from Ukraine before of the local parliamentary elections, and called his supporters to support the opposition party he founded, and rally in the capital city of Tbilisi on Sunday. His former "United National Movement" party, according to the Saturday’s poll, is the main opposition party that imposes a fight on the currently ruling ’’Georgian Dream’’ party. 3 The DPRK North Korea tested the new hypersonic missile ’’Hwasong-8’’. Pyongyang stated that it was a newly developed missile, and the ’’remarkable combat performance" of the missile was tested during a successful launch. The missile has "new key technologies" - according to a statement from the authorities, quoted by ’’KCNA" news agency. "The test confirmed the readiness of the navigation system, and the stability of the missile" - end of quote. “The test results proved that all the technical specifications have met the requirements” - the KCNA concluded. The South Korean President Moon Jae-in called for a "comprehensive review" of the North Korean missile tests. 4 Serbia and Kosovo Serbia and Kosovo have reached an agreement on a de-escalation at their border - the EU Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, stated on Twitter. “After two days of intensive negotiations, we reached an agreement on a de-escalation” - he announced after the negotiations in Brussels. According to the agreement - the Kosovar special forces will be pulled from the line of demarcation. In particular - from the checkpoints "Yarik" and "Brnyak", from 8 AM to 4 PM, on 2nd of October. They will be replaced by the NATO peacekeepers from the KFOR. The representatives of the EU, Serbia and Kosovo will set up a working group to work out a long-term solution to the problem of the license plates of the residents of north of Kosovo, which is mostly populated by Serbs. The locals often get Serbian numbers, but the Pristina authorities demand their replacement with Kosovo license plates. 5 Afghanistan The confrontation between the ’Taliban’ and the ’ISIS’ continues on the east of Afghanistan. The Taliban announced a large-scale operation against the ’ISIS’. In the provinces of Nangarhar and Zabul, located near the border with Pakistan, clashes occur between the ’Taliban’ and ’ISIS’. The Taliban deployed reinforcements in the regions and announced a massive operation to destroy the ’ISIS’ forces. Currently the Taliban are conducting intensive checks on the roads in the province of Nangarhar. They report the arrest of several ’ISIS’ terrorists. The fighting also takes place in the province of Zabul - the ’Kabul News’ reported. 6 Georgia The 2nd permanent NATO minesweeper group, consisting of 5 warships, entered the territorial waters of Georgia - the press service of the Georgian Interior Ministry reported. The group includes the flagship from Spain, and ships from Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey. The training with the participation of Georgian and NATO coast guard ships will take place in the Black Sea.
