Syrian air defenses repelled an air attack on the province of Homs || Weekly News, 9th of October, 2021
1 Syria The Syrian stare-run news agency "SANA" reported that the Syrian air defenses repelled an air attack on the province of Homs. According to the ’’Al-Ikhbariya’’ TV channel - Israel could have been behind the attack. "At about 21:33, Israel launched an air attack on the Tifor airfield in the central region from the at-Tanf area" - the report stated. It was noted that as a result of the attack - there was some material damage, and 6 Syrian soldiers were injured. The Israeli air-strikes against the military installations in Syria take place all the time. Usually they are explained by the fight against the the pro-Iranian forces, which are located at those bases. The Israeli military didn’t comment on the reports. They stated that they do not assess the statements of the foreign mass media outlets. 2 Afghanistan An explosion took place in a Shiia mosque in the Kunduz province, north of Afghanistan. The explosion killed and injured more than a hundred of people - the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan reported. All the victims were the parishioners of the mosque. Taliban Special Forces have arrived at the scene of the explosion. An investigation is underway. The ISIS claimed the responsibility for the attack a few hours later. The extremists clarified that the explosion was carried out in a crowd by a suicide bomber who activated a belt with explosives. It was noted that it was the 3rd attack on a religious institution during this week. Earlier there were explosions at the Idgah mosque in Kabul, and in a religious school in the Khost province. 3 Syria The terrorists of the "Sarayya Abu Bakr al-Siddiq" group - controlled by the Al-Qaeda in Syria, have attacked a Turkish convoy near the city of Erich, in the Syrian province of Idlib. According to the jihadists, the attack took place on 5th of October. The Turkish army convoy was passing in the area between the settlements of Erich and Nahlia when an IED was detonated. The results of the detonation are unknown. The terrorists reported the death of 1 serviceman, and injuries of several other Turkish servicemen. The Turkish Ministry of Defense hasn’t commented in any way on the reports about the death and injuries of their military personnel in the Syrian province of Idlib. 4 Russia The marines of the Russian Pacific Fleet conducted large scale training in the Primorsky Territory. During the training they practiced landing on the coast, during which the 40th Marine Brigade used UR-77 "Zmei Gorynych" rocket launchers, installed on the amphibious assault ships, to demine the coast to prepare a bridgehead for the landing of the assault forces. The UR-77 rocket launcher is designed to launch rockets at a distance of up to 500 meters. The detonation of the rockets leads to the detonation of the fuses of the enemy anti-tank mines, which clears the way for the military equipment of the advancing troops. 5 Turkey The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced his support for the entry of Ukraine and Georgia into the NATO due to their problems of territorial integrity. He also supported them in their countermeasures against threats. He added that Turkey doesn’t recognize the annexation of Crimea. "We support the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We don’t recognize the annexation of Crimea. I think we need to continue to support Ukraine and Georgia, not only because of their problems with the territorial integrity. We need to counter the attacks on their potential, and support their movement to the NATO" - he stated at the Warsaw Security Forum. Cavusoglu added that Ankara has constructive and intensive diplomatic contacts with Moscow. 6 - Russia "The revocation of the accreditation of the staff of the Russian mission to the NATO didn’t come as a surprise to Moscow, but it was an act of a shocking arrogance" - said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. “The number of our permanent mission staff has already been reduced in 2015 and 2018.
