1 Donbass "During the replenishment of the 10th Ukrainian mountain assault brigade, stationed in the town of Soledar, more than 1/3rd of the mobilized citizens left their positions without a permission and went into an unknown direction. The man power of the brigade is less than 50% due to the large losses" - the Russian Ministry of Defense reported and added that over half of the troops of the Ukrainian 3rd battalion of the 66th mechanized brigade, stationed near the town of Maryinka, left their positions due to heavy casualties and lack of ammo. Over the past day, the Russian forces hit 9 Ukrainian command posts - the RIA NEWS reported. 2 Syria While all the attention of the global mass media is concentrated on Ukraine - the situation in north of Syria has escalated. Recently the Turkish Air Force carried out several air strikes against the Syrian forces in the province of Aleppo. There were dead and wounded. On 16th of August, Turkey attacked the positions of the Syrian forces in the province of Aleppo, near the settlements of Tel Rifat and Kobani. 3 servicemen were killed, 6 were injured - the Syrian news agency ’SANA’ reported. Currently, north and north-east of Syria is being occupied by Turkey. The Turkish authorities are using that area as a buffer zone against the Kurdish forces. Clashes take place on the line of contact between Turks and Kurds. Sometimes the Turkish forces attack the Syrian government forces as well. 3 Russia On 17th of August the British embassy in Moscow stated that a British EW aircraft, "Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint", was performing a "routine operation" in the international airspace above the Norwegian and Barents Seas back on 15th of August. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on 15th of August about the violation of the Russian state borders by that aircraft near Cape "Svyatoi Nos", and over the Barents Sea. The Russian air force got an order to prevent the over-flight. The British scout plane was forced out of the Russian territory by a MiG-31BM fighter - the TASS reported. "A Russian MiG-31 performed a dangerous maneuver near the Royal Air Force RC-135W ’’Rivet Joint’’ aircraft that was performing a routine operation in the international airspace over the Norwegian and Barents Seas on 15th of August" - the British diplomatic mission stated on their Telegram channel. 4 China China sent warplanes and warships to Taiwan - the island’s defense ministry reported. "On 17:00, on 17th of August, the Taiwanese forces spotted an activity of 21 aircraft and 5 warships in the sea and airspace near Taiwan" - the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reported. 5 aircraft crossed the so-called "median line" of the Taiwan Strait. Namely, 2 Su-30 fighters, 2 J-11s, and a single Y-8 electronic reconnaissance aircraft. The ministry added that Taiwan sent an air patrol to monitor the situation, issued radio warnings, and deployed anti-aircraft missile systems - the RIA NEWS reported. 5 Russia The Chinese forces will take part in the strategic command training ’’Vostok 2022’’ in Russia, which will last from 30th of August till 5th of September - the Chinese Ministry reported on 17th of August. The document noted that the training will promote "friendly cooperation between the armed forces of all countries, as well as increasing the level of strategic interaction between all parties, and to enhance the ability to respond to various security threats. The training is not related to the current international and regional situation" - the Chinese Ministry of Defense specified. In addition to China and Russia - Belarus, India, Tajikistan, and Mongolia will take part in the exercises - the TASS reported. 6 Germany The Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, called on the EU to support a full membership of Palestine in the UN. The call was made in Berlin - Mahmoud Abbas arrived there on 15th of August. The Palestinian leader and the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, gave a joint press conference. Mahmoud Abbas warned of the loss of an opportunity to implement the two-state solution - for Palestine and Israel - and called for the defense of the idea. ’’Currently the EU can contribute to the defense of the UN two-state solution, if the countries, which have yet to recognize the State of Palestine, do so" - he explained. He also demanded to end the attacks on the population of East Jerusalem, the Christian and the Islamic holy locations.
