This is a special program from the ’ANNA NEWS’. I am Constantine Reztsov. The escalation of the situation on the territory of Afghanistan is forcing Russia to work out an algorithm of response in the event of an unforeseen development of events in the region. In particular, this concerns the situation with the possible activation of the Taliban. Yesterday the Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, stated during a speech at the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences that the Russian authorities are ready to protect the Russian borders and the borders of the CSTO partners in case of an attack from Afghanistan. He assured that Moscow is ready to provide a proper aid to Bishkek and Dushanbe to repel the possible terrorist attacks from the unsafe Afghanistan. The Russian military bases, located in those countries, will be used for this purpose in order to properly ensure the Russian security as well. Sergei Shoigu noted the following: “Our base in Tajikistan is quite strong. If necessary, in case of a direct aggression, that base will be used to defend the CSTO borders. The same applies to our base in Kyrgyzstan” - end of quote. In his opinion, the Kremlin hopes that the Taliban will fulfill the agreements that were reached in Moscow. Sergei Shoigu noted that the experience shows that the ’Taliban’ can’t be trusted. Sergei Shoigu called the regulation of the situation in the region via financial aid to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to be important. He added that it is necessary to implement a program for the re-armament of the armies of these two countries, which is designed for the period until 2040. On the same day, the head of the General Staff of the Russian Forces, army general Valery Gerasimov, announced the supply of new weapon systems, equipment, and other military property to the countries of Central Asia. He also mentioned the future training exercises on the territory of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The ’’ANNA NEWS’ follows the events. Stay tuned.
