This is a special program from the ANNA NEWS. I am Constantine Reztsov. The topic of this week is the situation on the ’Azovstal’ factory, in Mariupol. The siege of the ’Azovstal’ ended with the mass surrender of the Ukrainian military. This was the biggest victory for Russia in the post-Soviet period. During the liberation of the city of Mariupol, thousands of enemy servicemen were taken prisoner. The Russian and the DPR forces, which liberated the city, were out-numbered by the enemy. On the evening of 20th of May, the last group of Ukrainian soldiers surrendered from the ’Azovstal’. At the moment, the factory is being checked. The sappers are mine-clearing the factory. The ’Azovstal’ was the last stronghold of the Ukrainian military in the city of Mariupol. During the surrender from the factory, 2439 Ukrainian servicemen surrendered to the Russian forces. The total number of PoWs for the entire period of the liberation of the city of Mariupol goes beyond 4,000. Among them were the commanders of the Ukrainian 36th Marine Brigade, Colonel Baranyuk, and Prokopenko, from the Ukrainian neo-Nazi regiment "Azov". The fighting for the liberation of Mariupol began on 1st of March. The city was liberated by DPR’s People’s Militia, namely the Operational Combat Tactical Formation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the DPR, and some Russian army units. They were opposed by a superior group of Ukrainian servicemen and terrorists from the neo-Nazi Azov regiment, numbering 8,100 people. They had tanks and artillery. Since the suppression of the rebellion in Budapest in 1956, the Russian forces haven’t liberated any city, defended by such numerous and well-armed forces. The DPR special forces, personally commanded by the Minister of the Interior Affairs of the DPR, Aleksiy Dikiy, were especially effective. They have captured over a 1000 of Ukrainian marines at the "Ilyich factory" back in April. The DPR special forces, supported by Russian artillery and aviation, clashed with the enemy inside the ’Azovstal’ factory. They forced the Ukrainians to surrender. The operation in the factory was carried out with minimal losses for the DPR. Aleksey Dikiy took care of the lives of his soldiers and officers in every possible way by heavily using the artillery and aviation. The ’ANNA NEWS’ is following the events. Stay tuned.
