The Western countries destabilize the situation in Syria
1 Syria The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 3 TU-22M3 bombers arrived at the Russian airbase ’Khmeimim’, in Syria. "The crews of the long-range bombers will acquire practical skills during the training flights in the new geographical locations, during the flights in the airspace over the Mediterranean Sea" - the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry stated and added that after finishing their training flights over the Mediterranean Sea - the bombers will return to their permanent bases in Russia. 2 Syria The Syrian Information Minister, Imad Abdullah Sarah, stated that the USA and some other Western countries are trying to destabilize the situation in Syria before the presidential elections. He noted that France and Germany banned the Syrians from holding elections on the day when the vote was held abroad. "However, the citizens of Syria organized rallies in the city centers to show that they support their homeland" - Imad Abdullah Sarah stated and added that the West is imposing economic sanctions that are "directed against the Syrian people". The presidential elections in Syria will be held on 26th of May. 3 Armenia - Azerbaijan The Armenian Defense Minister, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, and the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, Lieutenant-General Rustam Muradov, discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. "The head of the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that any invasion on the sovereign territory of Armenia is absolutely unacceptable, and the position of the Defense Ministry on this issue is clear: the Azerbaijani troops must return to their original positions at once" - the ministry stated. It was noted that Harutyunyan and Muradov discussed possible solutions to the situation. The parties discussed the progress of the peacekeeping mission in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. "Rustam Muradov presented the actions of the Russian peacekeepers on the observance of the ceasefire regime" - the Armenian Defense Ministry added. 4 Israel Negotiations were held in Israel between the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken. During a joint speech after the talks, Netanyahu stated that an Israeli response to a possible violation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian radicals will be most severe. "If the ’Hamas’ violates the peace, and attacks Israel - our response will be very strong" - Netanyahu stated. He also thanked the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, and the president Joe Biden, for the "strong support for the Israeli right to self-defense". 5 Israel The Israeli radio ’Kan’ reported while citing a military spokesman that Israeli ’Iron Dome’ air defense system shot down an Israel Defense Forces drone during the operation ’’Wall Guards’’, in the Gaza Strip. An investigation of the incident has started. Starting from 10th of May, the Palestinian radicals, operating in the Gaza Strip, and the IDF had some skirmishes. The truce between the parties entered into force on 21st of May. 6 Mali The interim president of Mali, Ba Ndao, and the interim Prime Minister, Moktar, were arrested by the military over their refusal to include two active participants of the August coup in the new transitional government - the local mass media reported. The detainees were taken to the army base Kati on 24th of May. The arrested Minister of Defense of Mali was also taken there. According to the Mali’s vice-president, Assimi Goita, these actions were taken due to the fact that the interim president and prime minister violated the transitional charter. It was adopted in August 2020, and it temporarily replaced the constitution. On Tuesday night, France, the USA, the UK, Germany, and the EU published a communiqué on stabilization in Mali on the UN Multi-dimensional Integrated Mission website. The document expresses an extreme concern over the situation in Mali and the detention of the president and prime minister. These actions are called ’’an attempted coup d’état’’.
