This is a special program from the ANNA NEWS. I am Constantine Reztsov. 17 UN countries have formed a ’’Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter’’ coalition, in order to counter the one-sided sanctions. The coalition includes Russia, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, Palestine, Syria, Algeria, Angola, Belarus, Bolivia, Cambodia, China, Eritrea, Laos, Nicaragua and Saint Vincent, as well as the Grenadines. The memo clarifying the principles of the ’Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations’ stated that the acts of imposition of coercive measures and the withdrawal from global agreements are signs of growing unilateralism, Reuters reported. “Multilateralism is currently undergoing an unprecedented attack, which in turn threatens the global peace and security. The world is increasingly resorting to one-sided, isolationist, and arbitrary actions, including the imposition of unilateral coercive measures, or the withdrawal from important agreements and multilateral institutions. There are attempts to undermine the critical efforts to address common and global problems” - the ’Press TV’ quoted the memo. The Mass Media outlets noted that the group’s founding members have come under severe and illegal sanctions from the former US administration. Iran was sanctioned for a peaceful nuclear program. China for the Hong Kong policy and technology theft accusations. Russia for the re-unification with Crimea back in 2014. The Former US President, Donald Trump, received international criticism, including from the Western allies, for his one-sided and isolationist approach to the foreign policy. His administration announced plans to leave the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, the UN cultural agency UNESCO, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the nuclear deal with Iran. On Thursday, at an online meeting of the UN Security Council, the relationship between military conflicts and hunger was discussed. Iran, which is part of the group, and which suffered enormous humanitarian harm from the one-sided US sanctions, called the sanctions to be "the main cause of the food shortage". "In order to solve the food problem caused by the conflicts, the UN Security Council must oblige all parties to adhere to the UN principles, such as the human right to food, and others. The Security Council should under no circumstances boycott the humanitarian trade, especially on food and medicine" - said the Iranian Ambassador, Majid Ravanchi. He reminded about the humanitarian disaster in Yemen. The Yemeni population is suffering from both the war and the blockade by a number of countries. The Iranian diplomat added that the devastating and long-term consequences of the illegal sanctions are as brutal and dire as the terrorism, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. The ANNA NEWS follows the events. Stay tuned.
