A US military base in Syria was attacked
1 Syria The US military base, located in the oil-rich area of Al-Omar, in the north-eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, was attacked with rockets - the Syrian news agency ’SANA’ reported. Colonel Wayne Marotto, the spokesman for the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition, confirmed the attack on Twitter. It was noted that no injuries were reported after the attack. He added that the US forces opened artillery fire on the launch positions in response to the shelling. 2 Afghanistan The commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Lieutenant-General Austin Scott Miller, told to the ’ABC TV’ that the Taliban are fortifying their positions in Afghanistan, and this is a cause for a concern. He noted that the security situation in Afghanistan "isn’t good". He admitted that the radicals may try to carry out a "military seizure" of power in the country. He added that due to the enhancement of the positions of the Taliban, the people of Afghanistan "have lost their hope, and felt that the outcome is a foregone conclusion for them". 3 The USA - Israel The White House stated after negotiations between the US and Israeli Presidents, Joe Biden and Reuven Rivlin, that the USA support the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the concept of two-state co-existence. The White House added that Israel needs to support the Palestinian economic opportunities. The presidents discussed the recent events in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Joe Biden mentioned the importance for Israel to take steps to bring peace, stability, and support the broad economic opportunities for the Palestinian people. "President Biden confirmed that a negotiated two-state solution remains the best path for a lasting peace" - the statement concluded. 4 The USA Joe Biden stated that Russia and the USA can co-operate in the matters of nuclear non-proliferation, and the fight against climate change. Joe Biden noted that he made it clear to Vladimir Putin that relations with the USA should be stable and predictable. While referring to the divisions between the countries, Joe Biden stated that he would respond to possible "cyber-attacks or economic interference." 5 Ethiopia The France-Presse reported while citing their sources that the USA, the UK, and Ireland have called for an urgent open meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Ethiopian state of Tigray. The meeting could take place on 2nd of July. Earlier on Monday the Ethiopian government announced a "one-sided unconditional ceasefire" in the state of Tigray. The announcement came a few hours after the troops of the ’People’s Front for the Liberation of Tigray’ entered the administrative center of the state. A provisional government, created by the country’s central authorities, fled the state. No response has been received on the ceasefire yet. 6 The United Arab Emirates The Israeli radio ’Kan’ reported that the Israeli Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, arrived on the first ever official visit to the United Arab Emirates. It was noted that the Israeli minister have arrived as a guest of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahayan. It was reported that during the two-day visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister, the official opening ceremony of the Israeli Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Israeli Consulate General in Dubai will take place.
