An assassination of a scientist in Iran
1 Iran The Iranian Defense Minister, Amir Khatami, stated that the assassination of the nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh won’t go unpunished. The minister said so during a farewell ceremony for the victims in Tehran, which was broadcast by the state TV. "The enemies know it very well, and as a military man I assure them that not a single crime, not a single murder, not a single stupid thing done against the Iranian people will remain unanswered" - the minister promised. According to him - "the purpose of the murder was to undermine the cohesion of the society, but the organizers did not succeed". Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed on Friday, in the Tehran province. He headed the research center under the Iranian Ministry of Defense. The ’Fars’ news agency reported that the scientist was killed via a remotely controlled automatic weapon. Iran has announced the involvement of Israel and the USA in the murder. Iran added that the assassination of the scientist won’t go unanswered. 2 Iran The ’’Press TV’’ reported that some weapon fragments were found at the place of assassination of the nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. It was noted that the fragments have Israeli origin. The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, announced that Tehran will retaliate against its enemies for killing Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. The place, time, and exact method of the retaliation will be decided by Iran - the IRIB TV quoted his words. 3 Switzerland The 4th session of the small group of the Constitutional Committee of Syria started today in Geneva. The main discussion will be about the national foundations and principles. The meeting will be held behind closed doors, and it will last until 4th of December. The UN Secretary General’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, stated during a speech at a press conference on Sunday that an agreement was reached with the co-chairs of the committee to continue the discussion of the agenda of the previous session, which took place in Geneva in August. He added that he expects "broad and positive discussions" that will provide an opportunity to move forward, and to begin the discussions on the constitutional principles in January. Geir Pedersen added that moving forward on the constitutional process "won’t be easy, given the distrust between the parties after 10 years of conflict". According to him - "building the trusting relations between the parties has already begun, and it may lead to a broader political process" - end of quote. 4 Nagorno-Karabakh The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a special medical detachment has deployed a field hospital on the territory of the Stepanakert airport. The special detachment will organize medical support for the peacekeeping forces and to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The hospital is ready to accommodate up to 40 people. The ministry added that more than 60 medical specialists have arrived in the region. Among them are military surgeons, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, therapists, and epidemiologists. The doctors have arrived in Yerevan on IL-76 military transport aircraft from Khabarovsk. 5 Armenia The press service of the Armenian Presidential Office reported that the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, appealed to the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with a request to help return the PoWs and other hostages in Azerbaijan to Armenia. "The letter from President Sarkissian said that the Armenian society and the diaspora are deeply concerned about the situation with the soldiers and civilians held captive in Azerbaijan. The mediation of the Russian President will be a great support in the resolution of an extremely painful issue - the return of our PoWs, civilians, and the bodies of the dead" - the message concluded. 6. Lebanon - Israel The news website ’Naharnet’ reported while citing a source in the Lebanese delegation that the 5th round of negotiations on the demarcation of the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon has been postponed to a later date. It was also reported that an American diplomat, John Desrocher, will visit Beirut in the near future, with an aim of overcoming the difficulties on the negotiations due to the differences. Earlier, during the 4th round of negotiations, the delegations from Lebanon and Israel didn’t agree on the starting point from which the demarcation of the maritime border should start.
