Nagorno-Karabakh. The work of the Russian peacekeepers
1. Nagorno-Karabakh The Russian Defense Ministry denied the information about the surrounding of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. Earlier some mass media reported about a statement from the Armenian Prime Minister that the Russian peacekeepers are, allegedly, surrounded by the Azerbaijani troops near the villages of Hin Tager and Khtsaberd, in the Hadrut region. "The report about the encirclement of the Russian peacekeepers by one of the party of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a fake news" - the Russian Defense Ministry stated, and added that the Russian peacekeepers perform their tasks just as usual, both at the observation posts and at the monitoring of the ceasefire. "The ceasefire is being observed at the entire contact line" - the ministry concluded. 2 Russia - Nagorno-Karabakh During the yearly press conference, the Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh broke out during this year not because of the interference of some external forces. He added that Nagorno Karabakh, from the standpoint of the international law, is a part of Azerbaijan. Putin noted that the main result of the agreements is the preservation of lives. In his opinion - the international mediators on Karabakh should stop talking and start acting, and they should help the locals, instead of leaving this matter only on Russia. Vladimir Putin noted that the number of the Russian peacekeepers can be increased, but only by an agreement with the parties of the conflict. 3 The USA Clark Cooper, the assistant secretary of state for the political-military affairs, stated during a briefing that the USA believe that the presence of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh can destabilize the situation in the region. "In such cases, the presence of Russia can destabilize the situation" - Clark Cooper stated while answering on a question from an Azerbaijani journalist about a possible opposition of Washington to the Russian influence in the region. “This is definitely a challenge for all the parties and states involved. For this reason, the USA are paying particular attention to the humanitarian situation, which was partly announced in November by the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo” - Clark Cooper concluded. 4 Armenia The Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan stated that Armenia appreciates the efforts of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov aimed at the ending of the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. Ayvazyan stated so during an interview to the French newspaper "Le Monde", the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported. "The Armenian people appreciate the efforts that saved thousands of lives. The purpose of the presence of the Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh is to avoid a new conflict" - Ayvazyan stated and added that the Armenian authorities suspect that Azerbaijan doesn’t provide the full information on the number of soldiers, captured during the hostilities in Karabakh. The Armenian Foreign Minister underlined that "it is necessary to swiftly find a solution to this problem". 5 Nagorno-Karabakh The Deputy Head of the Center for the Reconciliation of the Parties of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Dmitry Perepelkin, reported that the Russian combat engineers cleared 195 hectares of territory and 60 km of roads. They also defused over 6,000 explosive items in Nagorno-Karabakh. Perepelkin added that the exchange of bodies of the dead between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues, as well as the search for the missing persons. The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross provide their aid in both matters. "In order to improve the efficiency of that work - the number of the search groups was increased from 3 to 5" - Perepelkin concluded. 6 India The ANI news agency reported that on Wednesday India conducted successful test launches of 2 Indian-developed short-range ballistic missiles ’Prithvi-2’. The tests took place at a proving ground in the eastern state of Odisha. It was noted that the test launches were successful. The tests confirmed all the expected parameters. The missile developer is the Indian ’Defense Research and Development Organization’. ’Prithvi-2’ is capable of delivering nuclear warheads.
