Terrorists attacked a UN base in Nigeria

1 Nigeria The ’France-Presse’ reported while citing their sources that on Monday the ISIS Islamists attacked a UN base in the city of Dikva, in the state of Borno, in north-east of Nigeria. It was reported that the terrorists set the base on fire. 25 UN personnel took refuge in a bunker. It was noted that none of the UN staff were injured. 2 Iraq The ’Al-Sumaria’ TV reported that hundreds of people went to the streets of Baghdad on Monday in solidarity with the protesters in the city of Al-Nasiriyah, in the province of Di-Qar, in south of Iraq. The police tried to disperse the protesters with clubs and flashbang grenades. At least 5 people were injured. Riots broke out in Al-Nasiriyah at the end of February. The protesters demanded the governor’s resignation. At least 8 people became victims of the clashes with the police in the past days. It was noted that it was possible to convince the Iraqis, with a help of the tribal sheikhs, to abandon the mass protests for a week after the authorities assured the protesters that all their demands will be met. 3 Georgia The Georgian TV reported that the representatives of the opposition parties of Georgia and their supporters are holding a protest rally in Tbilisi, near the parliament. They demand to release the chairman of the ’’United National Movement’’ political party, Nika Melia. It was noted that the protesters arrived to the parliament on early morning. They stated that they won’t block the way to the parliament. The parliament has reinforced police units. Some of the protesters tried to block the roads, but the police didn’t allow them to do so. From time to time there were small skirmishes with the police. The press service of the Georgian Interior Ministry reported that 7 people were detained at the opposition protest for disobeying the police. 4 The USA - Afghanistan The US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, stated that the USA offered to hold a meeting between Afghan government officials and the Taliban at a higher level than the Doha negotiations. The ’Al Jazeera’ TV reported while citing a senior Afghan government official, that Khalilzad discussed with the Afghan leadership "a review of a number of provisions of the Doha agreement between Washington and the Taliban, including the timing of the withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan". It was noted that the USA aren’t going to to leave the agreement with the Taliban. The USA intend to amend the agreement. 5 Russia - Uzbekistan The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated during the negotiation with the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov that the relations between Moscow and Tashkent are essentially a strategic partnership and an alliance, and the relations are on the rise. He added that the negotiations will mostly concentrate on the preparation for the state visit of the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia. Abdulaziz Kamilov expressed his hope that the upcoming visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Russia will take place in 2021. He added that the low rates of the coronavirus infections in Uzbekistan make it possible to discuss the resumption of the 2-sided cooperation in certain areas. 6 The USA The US Permanent Representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, told to the CNN that the US officials have to find a diplomatic approach and work with people they don’t like. She made such reply on the question about the relations with Russia. She stated that there are areas in which the USA "can and should work with the Russians". In her opinion, it is necessary for Moscow and Washington to cooperate on the fight against the climate change, and to make humanitarian corridors in Syria. Earlier, she stated at a press conference that the USA and Russia are working "together on the Security Council to bring peace, security, and prosperity to the world".
