A missile strike on Syria
1 Syria An Israeli missile attack on Syria killed 4 people, including 2 children. All the victims were members of the same family. 4 more people, including 2 children, were injured. The missile strike destroyed 3 residential buildings in the city of Hama - the Syrian state TV reported with a reference to a military source. The Israeli attack was aimed at the outskirts of the Syrian city of Hama, at 4 AM, from the city of Tripoli, north of Lebanon. The ’SANA’ reported that most of the missiles were intercepted by the Syrian air defenses. 2 Donbass Ruslan Yakubov, the head of the DPR office in the Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire, announced the escalation on the contact line in Donbass. "After the shelling of the residential areas of the village of Staromikhaylovka on the evening of 21st of January, the settlements at the south of the DPR were shelled as well" - Ruslan Yakubov announced and added that for 2 hours the Ukrainian troops were shelling 4 settlements at the south of the DPR. They used 82mm mortars and grenade launchers. "The situation is critical. The observed actions confirm the Ukrainian intention to start a new escalation. We demand from the official Kiev to stop the armed provocations, to conduct proper investigations, and to punish the guilty" - Ruslan Yakubov concluded. 3 India - Pakistan The ’’Daily Pioneer’’ reported while citing a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of Defense that as a result of the recent shelling of the control line in Kashmir from Pakistan - an Indian serviceman was killed. A spokesman for the Indian Ministry of Defense stated that the Pakistani troops carried out "an unprovoked shelling of the Indian servicemen in the Punch District, in the allied territory of Jammu and Kashmir". In the east and south of the country, the rebels attacked the government forces and the UN peacekeepers from the ’UN Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission’ in the country. There were losses among the UN peacekeepers. 5 The USA The White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki announced that the US authorities are in favor of extending the "New START" treaty for 5 years. According to her - the new US President Joe Biden considers the treaty "in the interests of the US national security". Jen Psaki added that the USA consider the extension of the treaty for 5 years to be especially important due to the fact that the relations between Russia and the USA got worse. The Washington Post reported earlier while citing their sources that the new US administration intends to extend the "New START" by 5 years. 6 The USA The CNN reported that the US Justice Department has informed the Joe Biden’s administration that more than 120 US citizens were charged with organizing of riots in Washington, and taking over the Capitol on 6th of January. The charges range from ’illegal entry into the US Congress building’ to ’assaults of the policemen’. Some of the people were charged with ’conspiracy’ and ’threat of violence’.
