Military operation in Hasaka
1 Syria The operation against the ISIS in the city of Hasakah, north-east of Syria, continues for the 5th day. The death toll is in the hundreds. According to the UN - tens of thousands of civilians have fled their homes. The US special and air forces are being involved in the battles. On 20th of January the ISIS attacked the Al-Synaa prison in Hasakah. The terrorists tried to free the radicals in that prison. The prison was guarded by the Kurdish "Syrian Democratic Forces". The terrorists managed to take over the prison, and hold it for several days. 2 Syria On the morning of 25th of January the sources from the Syrian Democratic Forces stated that 175 terrorists were killed during the clashes, over 300 surrendered. The Kurdish forces lost 27 people. The "Syrian Observatory for the Human Rights" published different casualty numbers, according to which the SDF lost 39 fighters, and the terrorists lost 77. There are also casualties among the locals. The fighting in the city led to new refugees. Their number, according to the UN, can reach 45,000 people. For now the fighting is still going on. 3 Donbass The Ukrainian troops fired grenade launchers on the suburbs of the city of Donetsk, and a village at the south of the DPR - the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the ceasefire reported. “The shelling took place at 11:20, 12:10, 12:42 and 13:20 on the villages of Gornyak, Spartak, and the village of the Trudovskaya mine. At 11:25 and 12:42 the village of October in the south of the DPR was attacked. The shelling was done from the settlements of Peski, Avdeevka, Marinka, and Pishchevik. Various types of grenade launchers were used, 28 shells were fired. There was no information about the victims and destruction” - the representative office stated. There was a message about the shelling of the settlement of the DPR - Belaya Kamenka. “At 14:10, 1 RPG grenade and 5 AGS grenades were fired at the village from the settlement of Starognatovka, controlled by Ukraine” - the representatives specified. 4 Donbass Ukrainian MLRS and tanks were sent to the contact line in Donbass - the People’s Militia Department of the DPR reported. According to the defense department - Ukraine is actively sending “weapons to form shock groups. The arrival of MLRS, tanks, and equipment for the destruction of minefields was spotted” - the representative reported. 5 Burkina Faso The military of Burkina Faso removed the country’s president from his post - the local mass media reported. The constitution was suspended, the government and the parliament were dissolved, a curfew was introduced. Land and air borders were closed. The coup was led by Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, on the behalf of the "Patriotic Movement for the Protection and Restoration". The President of Burkina Faso, Roque Marc Christian Kabore, was ousted after "failing to unite the people, and effectively face the security threats". They also added that the coup was carried out without violence, and that the detainees aren’t in danger. The coup was condemned by the UN Secretary General António Guterres and African Union Chairman, Musa Faki Mahamat. 6 The Baltic Sea The Russian Baltic Fleet started a training to increase their combat readiness. The exercises will take place in several stages. They will end at the training grounds of the Kaliningrad region - the press service of the Baltic Fleet reported.
