The situation in Afghanistan
1 Azerbaijan The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry accused Armenia of a new attack. It was reported that on Monday night, the Armenian troops fired from small arms at positions of Azerbaijani troops on the Nakhichevan part of the border line. There were no killed or wounded among the Azerbaijani military. The Ministry noted that the attack was suppressed with a return fire. It was reported that the situation on that section of the border is stable, the operational situation is being controlled by the Azerbaijani troops. 2 Afghanistan The Afghan Defense Ministry reported on Twitter that over the past day, the Afghan military killed 455 Taliban terrorists, and wounded 232. It was noted that the Afghan forces are conducting fierce battles in several provinces of the country. Especially strong opposition takes place for the city of Herat, which is the 3rd largest city in Afghanistan. Earlier the Taliban took control of the central districts of the city. It was reported that as a result of the US airstrike on the city of Lashkargah, 7 terrorists were killed. A large number of weapons and ammo were destroyed. 3 Afghanistan The Afghan Defense Ministry reported that the Taliban terrorists attacked a prison in the provincial capital of the province of Helmand, the city of Lashkargah. The government forces managed to repel the attack. According to the Ministry - 40 terrorists attacked the prison. 38 of them were killed, and 2 were wounded. 4 Afghanistan The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani stated that due to the pulling of the US troops - the situation in the country got worse. He made such statement during his speech in the Parliament - the ’1TV News’ quoted his words. He added that he respects the decision of Washington to pull their troops from Afghanistan. 5 Afghanistan The Afghan TV channel ’Tolo News’ stated that the British Embassy in Afghanistan has accused the Taliban of a massacre of civilians. The embassy stated that the Taliban killed dozens of civilians in the Kandahar province, which constitutes as a war crime, and it calls for an investigation of the Taliban actions. It was noted that the British Embassy in Kabul relies on a report from the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. No details were given about the events in Kandahar province, where the Taliban captured an area near the border with Pakistan a few days ago. 6 Russia - Uzbekistan Joint Russian-Uzbek exercises started in Uzbekistan - the press service of the Central Russian Military District reported. It was noted that the military will practice actions aimed to ensure territorial integrity on the border with Afghanistan. The military of the two countries were greeted by the Chief of Staff of the Central Military District, Major General, Nikolai Tereshchenko, and the Deputy Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan for the combat training, Colonel Kadyr Tursunov.
