The situation in Kazakhstan is stabilizing
1 Kazakhstan The CSTO peacekeeping forces will soon leave Kazakhstan. The mission to stabilize the situation was completed. The worst stage of the crisis, as stated by the country’s president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has been passed. There is no need for the presence of peacekeepers, who ensured the security of strategic facilities. The Russian civilians, wishing to return home from Alma-Ata, can still do so by the Russian military aircraft. More than 1,700 people have already left Kazakhstan. Those who stayed until 19th of January will be provided with free mobile phone communication. The Russian Ministry of Digital Industry made deals with the largest operators in Russia. Thus, anyone will be able to resolve the issues of leaving, even if there is a debt on the phone number. 2 Ethiopia The ’’Reuters’’ reported while citing 2 humanitarian workers that at least 17 people were killed in the town of Mai Tsebri, in the central Ethiopian state of Tigray, during an air strike. Supposedly the victims were mostly women. The Ethiopian government has yet to give a commentary on the situation. During the last week the ’’Reuters’’ reported while citing humanitarian workers that on 7th of January there were air strikes on a camp for the displaced persons near the town of Dedebit, in north-west of Tigray. 56 people died from those air strikes. 3 Switzerland The negotiations on the proposals put forward by Russia on the security guarantees in Geneva have come to the end. The Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov represented Russia. The Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman represented the USA. The negotiations lasted for 7.5 hours. There were no solid results. The Russian representative described the negotiations as difficult, but business-like. He added that Russia won’t compromise in the demands. The concessions must be made by the USA. On 12th of January Brussels will also host a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council. On 13th of January there will be negotiations of the OSCE Regional Council in Vienna. 4 Donbass The people’s militia of the LPR detected an arrival of the Ukrainian special forces to the village of Stanitsa Luganskaya, located at the contact line in Donbass. Anton Mikuzhis, an officer of the department’s press service, told to the reporters. He explained that the mission of the special forces was sabotage and shelling of the positions of the People’s Militia of the LPR. Over the past day, the LPR-controlled village of Molodezhnoye was attacked with grenade launchers and small arms. The representative of the defense department stated that the Ukrainian servicemen continue to deploy weapons and military equipment in settlements inside the zone of the so-called joint forces operation. 5 North Korea North Korea launched a ballistic missile at the Sea of Japan. The ballistic missile fell outside the Japanese Exclusive Economic Zone. Japan swiftly called a response team to analyze this information. It was the 2nd such missile since the start of January. North Korea stated that they tested a hypersonic missile on the last Wednesday. South Korea believes that North Korea doesn’t have such technologies yet. 6 Austria The International talks in Vienna on the Iranian nuclear program are gaining a momentum. All parties demonstrate a willingness to negotiate, which increases the chances of a successful renewal of the deal. Israel meanwhile opposes the existence of nuclear technologies in Iran, as well as the lifting of sanctions against Iran. The Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett told to the Knesset committee that the Israeli actions won’t be limited by the international nuclear deal with Iran, which is being discussed in Vienna.
