Israel launches missile attack on Syria
1 Syria On 17th of February the IDF attacked Syria with surface-to-surface missiles. Facilities in the Zakiya region, in the province of Damascus, were under fire. The attack took place from the Golan Heights. There was a material damage - the Syrian news agency "SANA" reported. There is no information about the dead and injured yet. The targets of the IDF were likely the facilities of the Iranian-allied Shiia groups. 2 Russia Moscow will send a response on the security guarantees to Washington - the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated during a press conference after negotiations with his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio. He noted that the response to the USA will be sent in both paper and electronic form. Later the document is planned to be published, in order to avoid any speculations on the Internet. Sergei Lavrov added that Russia is seeking the guarantees, based on the international agreements. The US Ambassador John Sullivan has already received a written response from Moscow in the Russian Foreign Ministry. The American diplomat spent only 15 minutes in the building. He didn’t comment on getting the response. 3 The USA The NATO plans to hold a military training in Georgia in 2022 - the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, stated. During his speech he spoke about the absence of the signs of the de-escalation in Ukraine. According to him - peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region are in danger. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, stated that the time of the end of the escalation in Ukraine doesn’t depend on Russia. 4 Donbass On 17th of February the Ukrainian troops launched a massive shelling against the civilians in the LPR and DPR. Mortars, large-caliber small arms, and ATGMs were used in the attack. The LPR noted that those were strong and active strikes by Ukraine on the civilians. The fire was concentrated at the civilian infrastructure and residential areas. The DPR and LPR forces returned fire on the Ukrainian positions. The escalation of the conflict began during the visit of Vladimir Zelensky to the Ukrainian army in Donbass. Recently the People’s Militia of the LPR shot down a scout drone, used by the Ukrainian troops to correct the shelling of the village of Donetskii - the Department of the People’s Militia of the LPR reported. 5 Ukraine The British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has arrived in Kiev - the British Ambassador in Kiev, Melinda Simmons, stated. The visit of Liz Truss took place to enhance the strategic partnership between the states, and to coordinate the actions to fortify the security on the European continent. Liz Truss has a planned meeting with the Ukrainian counterpart, Dmitry Kuleba. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry - they will discuss the joint measures to deter Russia from a further aggression, and the UK support for Ukraine in the enhancement of the Ukrainian defense capabilities.
