Rocket attack on the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station // Killed by Shinzo Abe
1 Japan On 8th of July, the former head of the Japanese government, Shinzo Abe, was assassinated. The attack took place in the city of Nara, where he arrived with campaign speeches. The reporters of ’’Kyodo’’ specified that the eyewitnesses heard at least 2 gun shots. Shinzo Abe was hospitalized unconscious with heavy bleeding. Doctors noted that he showed no signs of life, and was on artificial life support. According to some reports, it could have been a clinical death. The police stated that the assassin, a 41-year-old man, fired from a shotgun and hit the politician in his back. It was noted that the shooter didn’t try to hide from the cameras, or leave the crime scene. He was arrested, and his motives are being investigated. “Apparently he acted alone" - the NHK reported. 2 Ukraine Kirill Stremousov, the deputy head of the Kherson military-civilian administration, reported that the Ukrainian forces launched a missile attack on the hydro-electric power station in Novaya Kahovka. Some people were injured. The authorities of the region noted that the air defense forces managed to stop the attack, and prevent the failure of the hydro-electric station. "There is no threat to the North Crimean Canal" - the RIA NEWS reported. "The Ukrainian forces tried to attack the Kahovka hydro-electric power plant. The consequences of the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant could be catastrophic for the inhabitants of the Kherson region" - Vladimir Saldo, the head of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region, reported. 3 Donbass "The people’s council of the DPR has lifted the moratorium on executions" - the DPR parliament reported on their Telegram channel. The chairwoman of the Committee on Criminal and Administrative Legislation of the DPR, Elena Shishkina, explained on 8th of July that the draft law proposes to invalidate the part 9 of the article 202 of the DPR Penal Code. The paragraph stated that the provisions of the code on the death penalty come into force on 1st of January, 2025 - the TASS reported. "Thus, the provisions of the Penal Code on the death penalty will be put into the effect from the date of the official publication of the law" - Elena Shishkina added. On 9th of June the DPR court sentenced to death two UK nationals, Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin, and a Moroccan man, Brahim Saadoun. They are guilty of participating in the hostilities as mercenaries. They were taken prisoner in Donbass. On 1st of July the DPR authorities also indicted 2 more UK mercenaries. 4 Germany The German Defense Minister, Christine Lambrecht, stated that Germany won’t provide Ukraine with 200 APCs "Fuchs" from the warehouses of the Bundeswehr, previously promised to Kiev. The German position is that Ukraine will continue to receive support, but not to the detriment of the German security. “It is irresponsible to rob the Bundeswehr, and ignore the military advice of the Inspector General". Lambrecht is referring to the high-profile statement, made by the acting Inspector General of the German Forces, General Ebergard Zorn. He warned the German authorities to not arm Ukraine with the equipment from their own stocks. The head of the Ministry of Defense stated that she was following Zorn’s advice. 5 Finland The Finnish President, Sauli Niinistö, has approved the amendments to build the barriers on the border with Russia - the Finnish Interior Ministry reported. The document will enter into force on 15th of July - the RT reported. "The provisions will be added to the national legislation for the construction of barriers in the border zone in order to better prepare for various threats to our security" - the TASS quoted the statement. The Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Russia has never posed a threat to Sweden or Finland. 6 Congo - Rwanda The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have agreed to a ceasefire. This was announced after the talks between the President of Rwanda, Paul Kigali, and the President of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, held in the capital of Angola. The Angolan President, Joao Lourenço, has been appointed by the African Union to mediate the dialogue between the two parties. "I am happy to announce that we have made some progress. We have agreed on a ceasefire, among other things" - the head of Angola stated at a press conference. Kinshasa and Kigali have been at odds since the rebel group "The 23rd of March" launched a major offensive in Congo’s eastern border regions, in late March. The Congolese accuse Rwanda of supporting the rebel group. The Rwandan authorities deny it, and accuse Congo of fighting on the side of an another group, "the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda", whose goal is to overthrow the government.
