Talks on Nagorno-Karabakh in Moscow
1 Russia - Nagorno-Karabakh Negotiations took place in Moscow between the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The meeting was initiated by Vladimir Putin. He noted that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is stable. The Russian peacekeepers monitor the ceasefire and the road traffic safety. Vladimir Putin urged to plan the implementation of next steps for the settlement, outlined in the joint statement dated November 9, 2020. He proposed to discuss "the issues related to the activities of the Russian peacekeepers, clarification of the demarcation lines, solution of the humanitarian problems, and the protection of cultural heritage sites". Earlier, the press secretary of Nikol Pashinayn, Mane Gevorgyan, reported on Facebook that Armenia plans to raise the issues of the return of PoWs, the search for the bodies of the dead servicemen, and the search of the missing people. 2 Armenia The Armenian President Armen Sarkissian stated that there is a deep political, economic, social and psychological crisis in Armenia. In his opinion the only way out of the situation is "early elections within a reasonable time, with the necessary amendments to the Electoral Code and the Constitution. It will start the real process of the state building from scratch". Sargsyan said so in the article "On the way to the 4th republic", which was published by the presidential press service on Monday. Armen Sargsyan pointed out that with the help of legitimate, balanced, and impartial branch of power - namely the president - a government of national accord must be formed before the early elections. 3 Indonesia The "Associated Press" reported that divers found a possible crash site of an Indonesian Boeing 737 that crashed on Saturday. The possible crash site was found at a depth of 23 meters in the Java Sea. The Boeing 737 took off from Jakarta to Pantianak. There were 50 passengers, 6 crew members, and 6 airline employees on board. About 4 minutes after taking off from the capital’s airport, the airplane crashed into the sea. 4 Kyrgyzstan The first round of the presidential elections was held in Kyrgyzstan, on Sunday. According to the preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, after processing the ballots from 98% of polling stations, Sadyr Japarov got more than 79% of votes. On Sunday, a referendum was held on the choice of the form of government as well. According to the preliminary results, more than 80% of citizens preferred the presidential form of government over the parliamentary one. Several Kyrgyz presidential candidates disagreed with the preliminary election results. The leader of the ’Butun Kyrgyzstan’ party, Adakhan Madumarov, stated that there was a fraud. The former head of the National Security Committee, Abdil Segizbayev, also announced his intention to challenge the election results. 5 India The ’Times of India’ reported with a reference to the Indian Ministry of Defense that at the end of January, India will send their military specialists to Russia for the training of combat use of the AA missile system S-400s. The first group will consist of 100 Indian servicemen. "In a few months the 2nd group of servicemen will go to Russia for the same training. The 1st regiment of S-400 air defense systems is planned to be adopted by the Indian forces at the end of 2021, or at the start of 2022. The contract with Russia on the supply of those AA systems will be completed by 2025" - the report concluded. 6 China The Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, welcomed the decision of the Chinese authorities to send an international mission of experts to China in order to find out the origin of the new coronavirus. He made such statement on the WHO Twitter page. He added that he expects a close cooperation with the Chinese partners. The Chinese State Committee on Hygiene and Health announced that a delegation of the WHO experts will arrive in China on 14th of January in order to investigate the causes of the new type of coronavirus.
